GoodEnough Energy to Build India's Largest BESS Plant in J&K
GoodEnough Energy, India's pioneering manufacturer of battery energy storage systems (BESS), has disclosed plans to invest Rs 450 crore in establishing a 20 GWh per annum capacity plant in Jammu & Kashmir by 2026. This revelation was made during the 4th international Stationary Energy Storage Conference held in New Delhi by the India Energy Storage Alliance, a leading organization fostering dialogue between industry and government in the energy storage, e-mobility, and green hydrogen sectors.
The upcoming facility in Jammu & Kashmir is poised to become India's largest BESS plant, as affirmed by the company's founder and CEO, Akash Kaushik. With an initial investment of Rs 160 crore, GoodEnough Energy is already on track to operationalize 7 GWh of BESS manufacturing capacity by October.
Kaushik underscored the environmental benefits of the new plant, estimating a reduction of over 5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. Furthermore, the expanded capacity is projected to curtail emissions by a staggering 15 million tonnes of CO2 by 2026.
In his remarks on the development of indigenous BESS tailored for the Indian market, Kaushik highlighted the improved cost competitiveness of BESS, now priced at approximately Rs 3 per KWh/unit, rendering them comparable to conventional electricity sources, including fossil fuels.
Emphasizing the evolving landscape of the electricity industry, Kaushik noted the escalating demand for clean, reliable, and cost-effective power solutions. He stressed the imperative for innovative technical solutions and grid optimization strategies capable of unlocking new revenue streams and enhancing energy efficiency.
Regarding the company's giga factory, Kaushik reiterated its significance in driving forward indigenous BESS technologies with global standards and advanced functionalities. With a focus on innovation and cutting-edge features, GoodEnough Energy aims to consolidate its position as a leader in the BESS domain, leveraging India's largest and state-of-the-art BESS giga factory located in Jammu & Kashmir.
